Symbolism
The pointed tips of the leaves were taken to represent the Holy Lance.
The tendrils represent the whips used in the flagellation of Christ.
The ten petals and sepals represent the ten faithful apostles (excluding St. Peter the denier and Judas Iscariot the betrayer).
The flower's radial filaments, which can number more than a hundred and vary from flower to flower, represent the crown of thorns.
The chalice-shaped ovary with its receptacle represents the Holy Grail.
The 3 stigmas represent 3 nails and the 5 anthers below them 5 hammers or 5 wounds (four by the nails and one by the lance).
The blue and white colors of many species' flowers represent Heaven and Purity.

Aricia agestis is a very small butterfly with a wing span of only 25 - 31mm. The upper-wings are brown with orange spots on the wing edges. I didn't manage to get a good photo of this.

The subject for this week's Sunday Challenge is Mother Earth. A huge subject, which one could interpret in many different ways.
I chose to show a very traditional photo of a bare and recently ploughed field which will eventually yield potatoes.
The PiPs show how Mother Earth is able to recycle many things, the pollination process which allows Mother Earth to be fruitful, and lastly some of the fruits of the season.
