The path leading to the sea

HFF everyone. I hope you are enjoying the last of the meteorological summertime, or wintertime for those down under. This opportunity might probably be the last time I dip my toes in the sea this year.

A Rare Phenomenon

09 Aug 2022 25 15 314
The marks on the water are caused by a very rare occurrence called rainfall. Here is a short explanation for those of you who don't understand the concept of rain. Rain is liquid precipitation: water falling from the sky. Raindrops fall to Earth when clouds become saturated, or filled, with water droplets. Millions of water droplets bump into each other as they gather in a cloud. When a small water droplet bumps into a bigger one, it condenses, or combines, with the larger one. As this continues to happen, the droplet gets heavier and heavier. When the water droplet becomes too heavy to continue floating around in the cloud, it falls to the ground. In this case it lasted for about 10 minutes and the phenomenon has not been seen since.

It's 10.30 and I have just come in for a cool drink and a rest after doing 2 hours of gardening, cutting back crispy perennials and overblown roses. The work isn't finished but it's now too hot for me outside. This is where I'd love to be now - paddling in the North Sea. :-))

Horsey Beach. Bay 29. With clickable PiPs

All the way along the beach are 'bays' separated by breakwaters like this. Each bay is numbered, and I think this is one way of counting the seal population when the seals gather on the beach to produce seal pups. We came off the beach just after noon, as it was getting busier. The sand was very hot for walking on. I can't believe that this was just a week ago. The weather is very cool now and rainy. Typical British summer.

Today's Saturday Self Challenge is: Love: anything that symbolizes love to you. I love our family and I love the sea, so here we have a little bit of both.

Welcome to the world

Seals at Horsey Gap

HFF to you all

These seals were quite aggressive and seemed to be guarding the entrance to the beach where pups were being born. We had a windswept but interesting walk along the dunes, witnessing lots of seal activity on the beaches, which were cordoned off.

Seals

Most of these are Grey Seals with shorter snouts and flippers, and cat-like faces. I think there may have been a couple of harbour Seals in the group too, with longer Labrador-like snouts, but I couldn't get any nearer. They all seemed to be enjoying basking in the sun.

Could this be the last stand?
