It is a good custom that Admins also translate the group title and description into the 7 main languages of ipernity: EN, FR, GE, IT, SP, PT, NL.

An example: www.ipernity.com/group/bonjour

In this way, more than 98% of all ipernity members can read it immediately in their native language (or first foreign language at school) and do not need to translate. This greatly improves the user-friendliness of ipernity.

We would be happy if you would join this custom. The machine translator from DeepL is helpful in this respect, as it provides very good translations: www.deepl.com/Translator (free version)

Dear Rosea,

I joined your group briefly to help you. I write in English because it is the language that most of the members understand. All others can use the integrated translator.

Through your question, as ima team we came across that we actually failed to include a quick guide for group administrators in the FAQ. We will do this as soon as possible.

As group administrator, you should write the title and description of your group in all available languages: The seven mentioned languages above (+ Esperanto if you want). This is a service not only for our members, but also for all guests from the worldwide web, who visit your group accidentally.

If one has selected a language in the language menu (1), he/she should see the group description (2) directly in that language:

FireShot Pro Screen Capture #031 - 'ipernity Gruppe Das bin ich!' - www ipernity com

To manage this, as group administrator you may click onto "Administration" (3). Another screen opens, where you click onto "Name, description, roles":

FireShot Pro Screen Capture #032 - 'ipernity Ihre Gruppe verwalten' - www ipernity com

In the next screen you will find a language selection menu (1). Choose your mother tongue and fill in the "Name" (2) and the "Object of the group" (3).

FireShot Pro Screen Capture #033 - 'ipernity Über diese Gruppe' - www ipernity com

Save it and make a check, whether it is shown as you intended it. Keep the description as short as possible. Experience has shown that most people read the description only fleetingly. Long descriptions are a deterrent. If a user has to scroll, the description is definitely too long!

The next step is to open the free machine translator Deepl: www.deepl.com/translator in a separate browser window.

FireShot Pro Screen Capture #034 - 'DeepL Übersetzer' - www deepl com

Put your text on the left side (1) and select the language you want it translated into (2). For short, simple sentences, a very good translation usually appears on the right. You can then use this for your group administration.

This way you can easily translate the group title and the group description in all seven languages of ipernity.

Since Esperanto is not very widespread in the world despite all the advantages of this language, DeepL unfortunately does not offer Esperanto. However, as an Esperantist you can easily translate your texts yourself. To include them as group descriptions, ipernity also offers this option.

You should definitely also write the rules in all languages. Because to follow them, people have to understand them.

As the ima team, we would be very happy if you would help in this simple way to make ipernity a truly international site where people from different cultures and languages feel comfortable.

Thank you!
