Our in-house translator thinks this is a "red-eared turtle"...............but it's obviously a Marsh Harrier although you may call in something different in Portugal. A bird I've often seen but never got close enough to get a photo.
Xata club has replied to Keith Burton clubTartaranhão = comes from the word tartaranha which is a fishing net or a boat, but also a clumsy person. Why it was given to this bird is a mystery...
Ruivo = red haired
Pauís = plural of paúl which means a palude or a marsh
Keith Burton club has replied to Xata clubActually I quite like the idea of a flying turtle :-)))
Excelente momento, Isabel
