I didn`t know of this wonderful bird.
In Wiki I found a good description of this bird, which is mainly native to Southern Europe (Spain, Hungary, Turkey and Russia). It is called "Stilt Runner" in Germany because of its long legs. I found there an exciting pic that shows the courage of this bird: Himantopus attacking Great White Egret

Incredible picture, could have been taken here, the background is similar.
We have avocets too, but I realize I dont have a photo taken by me...
