Spotted Flycatcher-6302

Spotted Flycatcher-6302
Picture in Picture ZOOM into see the bird

On BBC TV Springwatch last night Chris Packham mentioned the Spotted Flycatcher. He is struggling to see them on the South coast in recent years.

There is no doubt their numbers are very low compared to last century.

I made it my target bird to find and was thrilled to find one in a regular spot after walking past and trying further down the path I turned back convinved it must be more likely where I started. I had one false start, a Robin was on the branch below but a second look and there was the lovely Spotted Flycatcher doing it's thing catching flies and returning to the same branch.

BTW Plenty of flies !

Trevor King, Ecobird, Stephan Fey, Narvik 08 and 2 other people have particularly liked this photo

What a fabulous shot Colin. I love how you captured this pretty bird sitting in the curve at the end of the branch, - like it is sitting on a swing. It certainly looks like it has posed for you!!
Wonderful depth and I love the movement of the grasses below. Well spotted.

Very pleased to find one and I have seen another today elsewhere but it was a no camera walk (I think I do see more bird species when not trying to take photos at the same time)
