The park is the place for a chat with neighbours or people I don’t know other than by sight or indeed that I have ever met before. The ice-breaker is to have binoculars only. In comparison carrying a camera seems to be a negative.

I agree that having a pair of binoculars around your neck is often an ice breaker when out and about.
