Dark Green Fritillary Butterfly

Dark Green Fritillary Butterfly
Seen in the Upper Derwent Valley while hoping to spy something much larger a Bearded Vulture.
The Vulture, a visitor from The Alps is roosting in the Peak District - only the second to ever visit the UK. It had been seen earlier - we missed it.

To be honest we were just as thrilled to see this butterfly - not one we see regularly.

Jörg, Tractacus, Roger Dodger, Keith Burton and 3 other people have particularly liked this photo

I might have been one of them once (although I hope not) ... but I am lucky enough to have enjoyed many days in their company up in the craggy rockfaces of Spain's Sistema Central.

A wonderful little capture here Colin. I presume you did not see the vulture? Getting this, like this must have been a nice reward never-the-less.

Cheers, Herb

A cracking shot Colin - fantastic detail and colour!

I was wondering how it got it's name, so did a bit of research - according to the UK Butterflies website it gets its name from the green hue found on the underside of the hindwings.

You probably know that..........but mystery solved - for me at least!
