Central Australia

Central Australia
Travelling along the remote Birdsville track near the border of South Australia and Queensland. Despite what the landscape appears like, there are giant working cattle stations..up to a couple of million acres along here...
If there is any rain it can be impassable for weeks....and some stretches are just stone.
It is a 12-24 hour journey from Marrée to Birdsville on this road. This is quite a well kept section. There is one place to buy petrol between these two points.
One carries two spare tyres, lots of water and food, and camping gear. There is no phone reception mostly

Looks pretty wild to me Diana. I would certainly hesitate to undertake such a journey. What if you car breaks down here? Not very much in the way of exciting photographic scenes neither as far as I can make out but you have made the best of it. Keep safe! ~ Herb

Back before we met, long ago, my wife was a governess at Kalamurina (now a nature reserve) near Lake Eyre along this track. A great image of the Centre.

Despite the emptiness................the "road" looks to be pretty well travelled judging by the tyre tracks.

In the sunshine it looks quite stunning............I like the contrast between the blue sky and the beautiful brown tones of the land. Great work as always Diana.

Das Land ist schon faszinierend, weite Flächen und wenn man bedenkt das dieser Kontinent am Ende der Welt eine Insel ist, braucht man doch fast eine Ewigkeit von einem Ort zum nächsten zu kommen. Das ist schon ganz schön beeindruckend.

This is during the cooler season...around 28C...in summer it is closer to 45C every day
