No, probably due to the laws on endangered species, we are no longer allowed to import them in Denmark, any available must come from breeders with proof that they were legally born her. it was in 1979 that I saw one. These unfortunate animals used to be hunted for their skin. They are indiginous to where you saw yours and no other place at all.

I had no idea they were kept as pets in other countries. That is interesting.....though it is good to see that the laws now prevent their import. There were swarms of them in their natural habitat up in the Bolivian Altiplano. While we found the breathing a little difficult at 4500 meters altitude, these pretty 'Rabbits with tails' ran and scurried about in large numbers. It was a privilege to see them!
