chignal st nicholas' claim to fame is this c16 brick font, one of only two extant in england {the other is at potter heigham church, norfolk ). however , this was originally plastered, and only stripped down in 1902. I wonder if future antiquarians will strip plaster from my walls to reveal the "original authenticity" of the breezeblock

Good point! And yet I think the medieval flint churches which have had their external rendering removed are much more attractive and interesting than those whch are "intact". The stonework, and the patterns, layers and colours of the flint are often beautiful.
