st.albans cathedral
the lady chapel was the last addition to the abbey church in the early c14, and has the unusually ornate detail of saints in niches carved both up the window reveals and on the central mullions too. this is a little like dorchester, and these may be c.1308, though one window has perp. detail. the vaulting is victorian, there was originally a wooden roof with bosses, and niches stood where the new vaults spring.
