chapel built c.1714 for french huguenots, taken over by the la patente group in 1740, joined by the three crown court church by 1760, when wesley preached here, later becoming a german lutheran church, a baptist chapel and a methodist chapel , when dickens did readings here, during which time the building was extended and given a new facade in 1864 by g.m.north, finally being bought in 1887 by christchurch nearby for use as a church hall, when it was used by annie besant and eleanor marx to organise the match girls strike in 1888. now a community hall
