east horsley church, surrey

the walls of the churchyard are part of the designs of the first earl of lovelace which envelope mujch of the village too, spreading like flint and brick tentacles from his egregiously towered house. the small lookout here was the station of the youngest choirboy, whose job it was to warn the vicar of the earl's approach to services so that they could begin. built c.1875.
