brooke house chapel mural, hackney, london


in the chapel of brooke house in hackney this early c16 mural was painted on the wall to the north of the altar. it shows st.peter holding crossed keys and a long cross staff, with a row of shields overhead, and a kneeling tonsured donor at his feet, both figures facing east. after war damage, the council destroyed this interesting courtyarded complex for no good reason; this mural was saved and is in the museum of london
