coal house fort, essex

one of the forts at the mouth of the thames built by palmerston in the 1860s, and refortified in subsequent conflicts. known as pam's follies due to their enormous expense when england had no obvious potential invader, this east tilbury fort has a dam holding its moat in place, and several first and second world war additions.
