the figures of the 4 apocalyptic beasts representing the apostles stand in bronze at the top of the tower. the church was the "cathedral" of the leader of the agapemonite cult, built in 1892-5 by joseph morris of reading for the followers of henry james prince, as his "ark of the covenant", from which he was eventually turned out for not only sexual misbehaviour, but announcing his own divinity. it later became the church of the good shepherd, and is now the cathedral of eastern european catholics of some sort.
