memorial to sir thomas more, beheaded in 1535, whose decapitated head was obtained by his daughter margaret, and placed next to her coffin in 1577 in the family vault of her husband william roper . it seems that only the jawbone remains in a lead casket, set behind bars in the north wall of the vault directly below this c20 slab.
