goldsmiths' hall, foster lane, london

goldsmiths' hall, foster lane, london
built to the designs of philip hardwick in 1829-35, one of the grandest of the halls of the city livery companies. an early example of victorian prosperity leading to increased ornamentalism and the change from neo-classicism and neo-grecian architecture to the florid baroque and looser more eclectic classicism of the middle and later years of the c19.
the large ornamental carvings on this facade are by s.nixon.
