ewelme 1475 alice duchess of suffolk

ewelme 1475 alice duchess of suffolk
geoffrey chaucer's granddaughter alice, born 1404, first married to thomas montacute, earl of salisbury, who died when she was 14 in 1428. two years later she married william de la pole, 4th earl of suffolk, who was made duke of suffolk in 1448. he was murdered in 1450 when he was 54. since their son john was only 8 when he became 2nd duke, she held the reins of power in her hands. ten years later her son john the 2nd duke married elizabeth plantagenet, two of whose brothers became the kings edward 4 and richard 3, thus leaving successors both on the losing side and too full of royal blood for their own good once the tudors took power.
