john de la pole 1491 and elizabeth plantagenet. he was the great grandson of chaucer the poet and son of alice of ewelme. he became duke at the age of 8 when his father was murdered, then married elizabeth ten years later. two of her brothers became king, edward 4 and richard 3, leaving the family out in the cold when the tudors took power.
