Speed Boat in Crail Harbour

Speed Boat in Crail Harbour
Crail... is a former royal burgh, parish and community council area (Royal Burgh of Crail and District) in the East Neuk of Fife, Scotland. The civil parish has a population of 1,812 (in 2011). The name Crail was recorded in 1148 as Cherel and in 1153 as Karel. The first element is the Pictish *cair (c.f. Welsh caer) meaning "fort", though this word seems to have been borrowed into Gaelic. The second element may be either Gaelic ail, "rocks", or more problematically Pictish *al; no certain instance of this word exists in P-Celtic. However, if the generic element were Pictish, then this is likely of the specific. Quoted from Wikipedia

Three superb shots of Crail Joe. I have just looked on a map to see exactly where Crail is. Not too far from St Andrews, so if I ever manage to get up that way, it's going on the list!
All the best, Rosa.

I am confident you would love all the fishing villages in the East Neuk, Rosa. The fish and chips in Anstruther are excellent. If you go there make you pronounce 'Anstruther' as 'Ainster' or 'Enster'. Thanks for your very kind comment. Cheers, Joe

Thank you for the tip Joe. I get into enough trouble with place names in Cornwall. LOL! I may need to get back to you when the time comes.

You should hear the way some of the locals of Kilrenny pronounce the name of their village. LOL

I recommend you watch 'Weir's Way', Rosa. You will hear the late Tom Weir pronouncing 'Anstruther and Kilrenny' in the way locals do. I met Tom Weir, one Saturday morning in Gartocharn, the village where he lived. What a delightful old gentleman! There is a statue of him at Balmaha.

Here is a link to Weir's Way.

If they call it something different to Tom Weir, what chance do I have. LOL! What a lovely film and I am very pleased to hear that you found Tom to be so delightful, just as he seems in the film. I wonder if the young curator of the Fisheries Museum still works there. Maybe you saw him!? I also recognised some of the buildings from your photographs. Unfortunately your 2nd link took me to the same video clip and not the statue of Tom Weir.

Thank you for taking the trouble Joe. Have a good evening.

P.S. I have just found the statue in your gallery :-))

Cheers, Rosa.
