Playing with "tiny planet" applications

Last week I played with Tiny Planet FX Android application. That one I had to buy from Google Play store, but according to Gadget Hacks there is similar free Circular+ application for iPhones.
What makes Tiny Planet FX especially interesting are versatile features that makes it possible to create some similar effects as done by François Vogel. The only downsize is the image quality. Even the maximum quality does not seem to be enough and there seem to be a lot of noise especially close to corners and edges. I suppose more resolution would be required to get better results. Moreover the stitch between left and right sides of the image is not perfect. There should be some additional slider to change the overlap of it as well.
Now I only wish to find something similar for the desktop, and especially for Linux OS!
This picture I took from 25th floor of Tower Hotel Tampere, seen towards west, looking over Tampere skyline. Here's the original image:

And of course a perfect "tiny planet" image would require 360 image.
Did you try with narure landscapes? I would be curious to see the result!
