2006 Decalibron Hike
Folder: Colorado Hikes
Hiking the Decalibron (Democrat, Lincoln, Cameron, and Bross Peaks), the first fourteeners I managed to climb.
Democrat-Cameron Saddle
We weren't even up Mt. Democrat yet, and I was already dreading having to come back down and then up again to the next peak. And then on to Lincoln, which is hidden behind Cameron. It wasn't nearly as bad as it looks, though.
Moon and Talus
On the way up Mt. Democrat. On the way back down, right about in this spot, I caught my heel between two of these blade-like rocks, and fell down on my shins and palms, shredding all four and tearing two holes in the legs of my new hiking pants.
On the bright side, the moon was awfully pretty.
Ridgeline
Looking down from the Mt. Democrat summit at a Mordor-like wall of blackened rock.
Nearby Peaks and Tarns
Alpine lakes across the valley from Cameron. I believe Quandary Peak is in there somewhere, or possibly out of frame to the right.
Cameron-Bross Saddle
We would later have to slide down the scree slope to the right, when coming down from Bross (the hump at top-center). By far the worst, most exhausting part of the whole hike. It's not a bad view, but it's probably more enjoyable to hike back along the ridge to the main trail at the Democrat/Cameron saddle.
Parking Lot
My truck is somewhere waaaaay down there below the tarn.
Lincoln from Cameron
Looking across the saddle to Lincoln from the summit of Cameron.
