Stone Walls

Gotland is covered with miles of dry-stack stone walls. This wall in particular is reputed to have been built by a sailor who had contracted syphillis in his travels. Made mentally unstable by the disease, his only relief came from immersing himself in building stone walls around the local farms, and over time he developed a distinctive style involving alternating rows of round and flat stones.
