Thanks Ron. Unfortunately the avocados aren't growing right now on this tree! Though the hotel staff says that at times people do reach out and grab them from the fire escape - don't think I'm that brave, ha!

Right? It's so strange. I eat so many of them and I only had a vague idea of what the tree looked like, but this was not what I expected. I had to ask the hotel staff to figure it out.

I am "on holiday" (or as we say "on vacation"). And I am enjoying the vacation part. Thanks!

thanks so much. i'm really glad you like it. san fransisco always seems inside out to me. my city has trees on all the streets, san fransisco has them mostly inside the city blocks to be seen only from inside the buildings looking towards the center.

My favorite city - well, outside of Italy. LOVE SF! If you get to the outer districts (Sunset, Richmond, Cow Hollow, etc), there are trees on the streets. One problem is the frequent blasting wind, so they plant small ones to avoid impaling people's cars. I lived further south in Half Moon Bay, where the wind is even worse. I was shocked to see NO trees on most streets and little 10' ones on Main St. Even those blow over on occasion!

you copy most of our sentiments exactly. and my husband and i honeymooned in Half Moon Bay before going on to SF. and Italy - well of course!!

i never thought of the wind as being a reason for the tree situation. interesting.

Reminds me of a very large and old avocado tree against a palace wall in Santillana del Mar in Cantabria in the North of Spain. What astonished me wasn't the tree itself but the fact that it was heavily laden with fruit - in February!!!!
