Córdoba - Mezquita

The Mezquita in Córdoba, Spain.
The main attraction of Córdoba is the mosque-cathedral, known as the Mezquita.
Since its construction began in 785 AD, the Friday Mosque has been the model for the sacred art of Al-Andalus par excellence. During the period of the caliphate, it even became a pilgrimage center for the Muslims of the western Mediterranean, on a par with the Great Mosque of Mecca.
Numerous extensions and embellishments made it one of the most magnificent mosques in the world. Even the addition of a Catholic cathedral in the 16th century could not change this.
