Obwohl 1944 eine schreckliche Bombardierung die Stabilität des Turmes gefährdete, hielt er bis heute stand.
2001 wurde der Turm der Öffentlichkeit wieder zugänglich gemacht und es ist möglich, ihn zu besichtigen (nach einem Zeitraum von elf Jahren, in dem die Architekten die Neigung des Turmes um ein halbes Grad von 5,5° auf 5° gesenkt haben).
