The hardware shop's new look Seaford 21 1 2022
A peek through the window of a new coffee shop, which has taken over the premises of a really good little hardware shop - the sort where you could buy four screws or one castor. The staff had a solution to every DIY puzzle I presented them with. It closed during lockdown and because it was so cramped they could not comply with social distancing regulations, when other shops reopened. So they took all their stock to their out of town garden centre and fencing materials depot.
The coffee shop counter uses one of the hardware stores' sets of drawers, only they have taken out the back of the drawers and put in shelves, which are more appropriate for the new operation.
I think that the new proprietors are from a ice-cream and coffee bar a few doors along the street.

Sorry about the hardware shop, but best wishes to the new coffee shop.

Covid regs killed the best coffee shop in my local high street. I'm sorry to say.

Our town has had few commercial casualties from the plague. In fact we have had several new enterprises opening in existing shop premises, including an art gallery. We have plenty of eating and drinking places and they are quite a diverse lot. Recent additions include an Anglo-Vietnamese restaurant and the conversion of a Chinese takeaway to a sushi and noodle bar.

The new look is reassuringly old fashioned Phil. I love the mix in style and colours of the chairs. I hope it does well and I hope the previous owners are doing well at the garden centre.

Seaford's strength is that we have a good selection of eating places, with almost none of the chains involved. Our shops are also mainly locally owned, apart from the supermarket chains, WHS, Boots and M&Co. The seafront only has kiosks and ice-cream vans - no arcades, hotels or restaurants.
