Big train - bigger railway - Stratford - 26.5.2015
Big train - I think Eurostar trains have 21 carriages. I know it was a long walk to get to our carriage which was near the front of the train, when we took a trip to Brussels.

Thanks, Bev. No this is the Stratford in East London, where the 2012 Olympics were. I had never been to that part of London before, but took two smallish grandchildren there. Our local railway company, Southern, has a flat fare of £2 for children and if you are going into London that can include a TfL Travelcard, that you can use on all land transport, i.e. bus, train, underground and trams. You get a discount on the riverbus as well. So we went for a trip all round the Docklands Light Railway - from near Tower Bridge down to watch planes at London City Airport, up to Stratford to see Eurostar and Javelin trains then down to Greenwich for a quick look at the Cutty Sark sailing clipper and then a riverbus trip back to Blackfriars Station and a train (or two) home.
Stratford-on-Avon is the end of the line now and only seems to have a fairly sparse service, but it still seems to be open, with trains from the Leamington and Dorridge directions.

well the station at Stratford used to run to Leamington Spa ... but was closed some time
ago ... there have been talks about re opening it ... but as far as I am aware ... it is no longer
open .... I shall have to check .... ;-) being my home town ... but do not live there are the
moment ... and do not go along the Alcester Road where the entrance used to be ...
near to the Cattle Market ... and of course the Hospital .... you have me guessing now
and will have to check .... and I would love to see the Cutty Sark and take a riverbus
trip back ... that would be terrific ... you had a full schedule ... ;-)))

I remembered going to Stratford from Leamington, some time ago, but after the main closures of the Beeching area. So I checked using the Southern website, asking to buy a ticket between the two. There are some direct trains and others via Dorridge - about 8-10 in each direction I think.
