Southern Railway 313201 & EWS 66069 at Day's siding - Newhaven - 21.5.2014
Southern Railway 313201 forming the 11.58am from Seaford to Brighton, passing EWS 66069 waiting to take an empty aggregates train from Day's Aggregates siding, at Newhaven, to Acton. The driver of yesterday's trip told friends of mine that the load originated from Dagenham. We had thought that the traffic ran the other way, with the aggregates coming from dredging off the coast here. How wrong was that! Mind you we did wonder how it got from the quayside across a road and on to the train.
The other use of this siding is for the removal of bottom ash from the refuse incinerator. Those trains run at night.

, have particularly liked this photo

Thanks, Neil. We have more excitement on the 7th June, when, Britannia class, Oliver Cromwell brings a tour in, to help celebrate the Brighton to Seaford line's 150th birthday. It has been so popular that they are running a repeat on the Sunday. That will give me two bites of the cherry, so I am working out some additional vantage points!

If it was Britannia herself, I would contemplate a run down to the coast. I have so many photos of Oliver already and when the class was intact, 70013 was the loco I saw most frequently so I will pass on another photo opportunity.
I hope the occasion goes done well for you.

On a grey day, the trains' colours do create a good contrast.
