Thanks Puzzler! In fact the clouds were clearing away to the north and hadn't delivered more than a little drizzle on their way through. Sometimes I think my polarizing filter, which is a more on less permanent fixture on my 18-55mm lens, does overdo the colour intensity. But most of the time it works out OK.
