"The spider species Argiope aurantia is commonly known as the black and yellow garden spider, writing spider, or corn spider. It is common to the contiguous United States, Hawaii, southern Canada, Mexico, and Central America. They have distinctive yellow and black markings on their abdomens and a mostly white cephalothorax. The etymology of its name means "gilded silver-face". Males range from 5–9 mm (0.20–0.35 in) females from 19–28 mm (0.75–1.1 in). Like other members of Argiope they are considered harmless to humans."

- as she is quite large (fat), she must be full of egg sacs ..
I very much miss my dear girl, Portia Odessa Goldbottom...I hoped that I would see her just once more but alas, I never did. Let's cross our fingers that I see lots of baby Portias next summer!!!! :)
Then she fascinated me.
When we moved here to "Snow's Light" in June 2011.... in the dreadful heat of the summers.. I had one come... and watched her....
The 122F was too much for her as well.. and she died.. but left two egg sacs. I rescued them and laid them safe in a hollow tree. Maybe they hatched... who knows... but as long as I can keep a distance I do ok !
