We took the vaporetto to San Giorgio Maggiore and wandered around for a bit while waiting for Cia Cia to pick us up with his boat.

They were waiting for their tour guide. The punters queue up at the different colored (or numbered) flags, then head out in small herds with their guides.

Cia Cia used to be a river taxi driver before he retired, and he had many rich and famous passengers. He named his boat "Peabody" after one of them who has become a good friend.
