This small alleyway, aka Rue de Piss, runs from Shoreditch High Street to Boundary Street in what was the Old Nichol rookery. At the Boundary Street end are some bollards. Arthur Morrison called the alley "The Posties" in his book, The Child of the Jago (1896). The slum housing of the Old Nichol was torn down for the construction of the Boundary Estate (1890), the first social housing in London. The rubble was piled up in the middle of the estate and a gazebo built on top of the mound. Check it out on Street View!
