Red Cross Garden

Redcross Way. The garden, hall and cottages were established on the site of a derelict paper factory by Octavia Hill, social reformer, 1887-90. The garden, which was described then as an ‘open air sitting room’ for the people of Southwark, has recently been restored. There were volunteers working on it when I passed through, and many people using it as a pleasant place to sit and eat their lunch.
