triste mémoire

Wawer remembers:
Never again!

First crime against the Poles before many others.

It was only one of the first large scale massacres of Polish civilians.
There were more, even earlier like the Palmiry massacre
And my Grandpa was taken to the Stutthof concentration camp on Sep 8, 1939.
The camp was used for the imprisonment of Polish leaders and intelligentsia.
They took my Grandpa on the first night after they'd come to our family village.

Thousands of people were needed in the camps and to carry out the executions, some were condemned, some were executed, but most had a normal life after the war. How was it possible for them to have a normal life after these crimes?...

It is beyond my grasp.

A sad memory. But man has learned nothing from its history. The ideas that formed the basis for these terrible atrocities are becoming popular again - all over Europe.

Obviously in Poland we are now concerned mostly about the red plague coming from East.

Well, only a drop in the ocean of all the cruelty done by Nazis, but good thing that also this case is remembered!

My late father-in-law used to say that
'People do not die until they are forgotten.'

More or less the same as my mother and grandmother used to say.

Wonderful , very simple and very effective

This memorial plaque is placed at a wall of a church in Wawer.
The church itself is quite modern and simple in design but somehow, mysteriously it feels old.
