Actually it is a Polish coat of arms. It was used by several noble families in the times of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
It is good to know that you have nice memories of those kids.

The last private owner, who was not able to maintain the property because of huge costs, gave the palace to the State Treasury in 1920. Since then it has served as office of local administration. Its interior was destroyed in 1944 by the Wehrmacht but the palace was spared expropriation enforced by communists after WWII.
