Sasanian Helmet in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, February 2008

Sasanian Helmet in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, February 2008
Helmet
Bronze, silver, and iron
Mesopotamia or Iran
Sasanian period, 5th century AD

Accession # 62.82

The helmet, originally lined with leather, consists of broad bands of bronze and iron plates covered with a thin layer of silver, stamped with a feather pattern. The warrior's head would originally have been obscured and protected by a web of metal links of mail that hung from the holes in the lower rim.
