Jug in the Form of a Bird in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, February 2008

Jug in the Form of a Bird in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, February 2008
Terracotta Jug in the Form of a Bird
Greek, South Italian, Campanian, Teano, applied color, ca. 330-300 BC

Accession # 09.221.46

The site of Teano produced a variety of black-glazed pottery that is a simpler counterpoint of Gnathian in Apulia. Embellishment consists of added white, incision, and impressed motifs. These three vases belong to a large set that was found together; the remaining pieces are exhibited in the Greek and Roman Study Collection.
