South Italian Kernos in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, February 2008

South Italian Kernos in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, February 2008
Terracotta Kernos (vase for multiple offerings)
Greek, South Italian, Campanian, Teano, applied color, ca. 330-300 BC

Accession # 09.221.46 s

The site of Teano produced a variety of black-glazed pottery that is a simpler counterpoint of Gnathian in Apulia. Embellishment consists of added white, incision, and impressed motifs. These three vases belong to a large set that was found together; the remaining pieces are exhibited in the Greek and Roman Study Collection.
