Actor with his Right Arm Extended in the Walters Art Museum, September 2009

Actor with his Right Arm Extended in the Walters Art Museum, September 2009
Actor with Right Arm Extended

Creator: Roman (Artist)

Period: ca. 1st century

Medium: cast bronze (Metal)

Accession Number: 54.746

Measurements: 5 7/8 x 4 5/16 x 3 3/4 in. (15 x 11 x 9.5 cm)

The grimacing face drawn into a grimace, with broad mouth, snub nose, and deep furrows across the forehead indicate that the figure is an actor. He wears the clothing of a slave- a short tunic tied over one shoulder and a broad belt circling his exaggeratedly twisted lower torso. Slaves were favorite characters in Roman comedy, as they had been in Greek theater.
