Romanesque Architectural Frieze in the Cloisters, Sept. 2007

Romanesque Architectural Frieze in the Cloisters, Sept. 2007
Architectural Frieze
Limestone
France, Burgundy (Saone-et-Loire), 1125-1150

Accession # 1980.263.1

This frieze is believed to have come either from a screen in the Benedictine abbey church at Cluny or from a contemporary Romanesque house in the adjacent town. The miniature architectural panorama may be a schematic representation either of Cluny or of Jerusalem.

Text from the Cloisters label.
