Mosque complex, and rehearsals

We seemed to have arrived in Samarqand at the time of rehearsals for a great public, international celebration of Ramadan which was by then only a week or so off.

Getting into Kyrgystan was ridiculously easy — the most civilised border crossing of the trip. (Not counting the overly lengthy exit component from Uzbekistan.)

But well worth the detour. Kyrgystan is so very beautiful, as well as being once again very different in character from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Still enormously friendly people though. I deeply regret that we ("we"!) were in such a hurry that we had to turn down several invitations to stay in people's homes.

I think I did warn you up there that they were about to go a bit arty, didn't I? ;)
This is using a borrowed effects filter called "March hare". Looks like a detail from an old landscape painting, I think.
