Our communications relay, OOCL Oakland
|
|
The Oakland, no doubt at considerable cost, stayed within range of our portable VHF radio so that he could relay the communications which ensued from our distress call after the kidnapping.
A truly professional captain to whom we are extremely grateful!
Lifeboat!

It's been reported elsewhere, and I don't want to write too much here until legal proceedings against the owner and captan are completed, but in short, a group from our humanitarian aid convoy, including myself, were kidnapped! Here we see one of the lifeboats of the vessel on which we were held.
Photo also published elsewhere, and taken with Anwar's camera (hence the EXIF data) but please note, always © Kieran Turner. All proceeds from use will go to Aid Convoy.

Hotel dweller

Waiting for yet another meeting with the Al Quds convoy administration. The car to collect us at 9:30 didn't turn up. In fact two guys turned up at 9:00 and smoked cigarettes at me while I ate breakfast. It later turned out that they were there in place of the meeting with their boss (why couldn't they just have told us?)
In a further typically awkward twist, the Colonel who had been going to arrange this hotel for us (at the government's expense, very kindly) had gone on Hajj that day. So, it turns out it's true: for everything else , there's Mastercard.
