Intimidating or just rust?

This kinda feels like a scene from a horror movie, with the old toothless trucks waiting to advance across the barren landscape... although I'd prefer to think they're the good guys, like the trucks lined up in the film, "Convoy"!
Twins
|
|
Yes, Al & Eric do both have problems with their eyes, (and Eric only has one) but they're not unhappy — the boys have been rescued from a bad life. But they still cling to each other and go everywhere together, and often look a lot like one cat with two heads and four very demanding front paws. In this snap, I love the compatibility of their profiles in the middle.
At some point, when I can cajole her into getting me the text, my mum's animal rescuing activities will be described on www.coldwetnose.org — and you'll be able to sponsor people! :)
Cullomb & Mary-Anne

I've just rescued this picture of Margaret's grandparents for my friends Margaret & Ian Anderson. (The parents of my old friends from growing up, Gavin & Dougie.)
The original is about B3 (square A3) size, warped, torn, scratched, peeling, and the silver nitrate has become actually silver and very foxed. The date is a complete guess.
I discovered the trick for getting the scanner to see it. At first it saw the silver as a reflection, and the whole image was very very burnt out, especially the darkest areas and the lady's hat. But turning the green and blue levels right down and scanning only in red fixed it. Seems the silver was largely reflecting the green.
There's also high contrast and low brightness set at scanning time and a lot of playing with the grey level.
At the end of the stitching and healing, I desaturated and killed off the blue and green channels and made the red mono before making the image mode greyscale — doing it to all three channels lost the contrast.
Good result I think. It prints very nicely.
Coco WON'T pose!
|
|
Coco is excused, however, since she's just recently returned from a harrowing five days trapped between two walls after dashing off on an adventure.
Muchos thanks to the lovely lady who heard her and called the SSPCA, although it's a damn shame they had to be called two days running before going to look.
Pentax Optio s5i struggling against the light. Coco hates flash as much as I do! ;)

Well, it was about time I uploaded this one.
I always love when you can see the shutter opening through the lens in mirror shots like this... naked camera... kind of a feedback thing going on. Well, *I* like it, anyway! ;)
Building (II)

Building a house in Davie's back garden, because we needed more space for a party.
The helper is Steve :)

Regular saviours

Actually, only the one with the trailer was required. He called his mate along possibly to look at our collection of classic cars, or maybe just to share a laugh at our cheek – and optimism – at calling them in to bring us the Hillman Minx we found abandoned!
Bridge out
|
|
Look carefully and it looks like this bridge only ever went to an island — not to the far side of the river! It always seemed to me like a hell of a lot of bridge just for that. Perhaps the river (the Dee in Aberdeenshire) has altered over the years, or had recently flooded when I saw this...

Brent Sparrers
|
|
Taken just after Greenpeace activists were evicted from their occupation of Shell's Brent Spar oil platform, where they had been protesting about its dumping at sea.
I'd borrowed an Aberdeen University minibus to rescue them from Aberdeen's heliport where they'd been dumped, and get them to their press conference at a hotel.

Richard in the chamber
|
|
Prescient!
This is some time before Richard's election, and he was just showing me around the chamber of the Scottish Parliament, when it was still meeting in the Church of Scotland's General Assembly building.
These days he stands in the new chamber in a more official capacity!
Richard. Eaaaarly.

The morning after the celebrations marking the twinning of Aberdeen and Paisley Universities!
Dave
|
|
Best flatmate ever :)
(But, where the hell are you now, old boy?)
[The last time I think I spoke to Dave, I was in a tent in a field, and he was trying not to be spotted on an airfield... Brize Norton to be precise... hopefully he made it out!]
An update — I've since found the bugger! Congratulations on the forthcoming sprog, too!

Keith's brilliant early Moggy Minor, the Hillman Minx which Dave & I rescued from a technology park where it had been dumped with collapsed suspension, and Josie, my mark one Morris 1800 with amazing handling and six red leather seats — subsequently stolen from this very spot. At least it makes an authentic 1970s housing estate setting...
Hillhead - me & Josie freezing and it's only Octob…

During the celebrations marking the twinning of Aberdeen and Paisley Universities.
The Fisher's Hotel in Pitlochry had just apologised for double-booking the function room, and thus not having any entertainments for us. So to make up for it the very generous – and naiive! – manager made the bar free for half an hour. What a mistake! ;)
Demo - before
|
|
All happy and shiny at the start of an NUS demo. I've dated it November 1994, although it might be the previous year. It's dated by the fact that UK students were still receiving grants, and we were still able to see the student loan as an option!
