I'd come out to take some photos from Torry Battery, and barely paid any attention to the car on the beach. Until this happened! A small red car dashed off into the distance immediately after it started...
There was a surprisingly small "pop" when the petrol tank went up.
It was kinda fun looking through my earlier pics to see if I'd inadvertently caught anything naughty going on, but since the car on the beach was a bit of a blot on the landscape, I'd been avoiding it.
View large to better appreciate the skeleton of the car.
Look what I made happen!

Which is to say, I called them — I did not actually torch the car they'd come to douse!
View it large and you'll see the fireman tugging on a hose. It was slightly comical watching the guy struggling to pull the hose all the way down over the cliff (to get to the car seen burning in the photos to either side of this one in this photostream.) The barrier to stop lorries and campers getting into the car park wasn't openable for the fire engine.

This is almost the end... once the fire was out, they formed a bucket chain and used sea water to douse the battery and engine bay. Trying to preserve a little water in the fire engine, just in case.

First ever attempt at HDR...

...and it's not stiched properly, largely because I wasn't using a tripod. But the levels of gold hint at great possibilities.
I'll add a link here to another pic once I've got it right :)
I found out about HDR — High Dynamic Range — thanks to this pic: www.flickr.com/photos/cleever/155780779/

Boats queue up to get into Aberdeen harbour, just like aeroplanes over Heathrow. It's kinda surprising to see how busy it still is.
I love the way most boats now have a huge area on the side marked out as a "rescue zone" — the harbour looks a bit like the base of International Rescue ;)
rockpool

A classic rockpool, ringed in granite. It's surprisingly far up from sea level here. I'm gonna have to revisit it when there's been a high tide or in a rainstorm; I'm really hoping there will be a waterfall through the gap in those big front teeth, er, rocks.
Try this one on black: here .
