Portchester Castle (+PiPs)

Portchester castle is a medieval fortress that was developed within the walls of the Roman Saxon Shore fort of Portus Adurni at Portchester, to the east of Fareham in Hampshire, probably built in the late 11th Century. Today it is a Scheduled Ancient Monument and a Grade 1 listed building.
It has a fascinating history including being used as a military hospital in the late 1500s and as a prison. It was also used to house prisoners of war from the War of the Spanish Succession and from the Napoleonic Wars.
For those who are interested there is a full history here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portchester_Castle
It is currently managed by English Heritage and is open to the general public.
This one is best viewed large..........and there are also a couple of PiPs. Thanks for looking.
