What a shame but some fine brickwork remains

Indeed...........but these remains are quite photogenic!

It looks very grand, even the little bit that's left! A beautiful main photo and the 2nd PiP is fabulous!

Must have been beautiful to live there in the mansion… do you know why it has been demolished? Is there something else we donkt see?

I don't know exactly why it was demolished........it had been taken over by the Ministry of Defence during WW2 and I suspect it probably wasn't looked after too well. On the flat bit of land behind the wall a "diagram" of the mansion has been laid out in stone, to give people an idea of the size and shape of the rooms. In the grounds there are a couple of follies (which I will post photos of soon) and the old coaching house has survived and is now a coffee shop (also another photo to follow).

It was requisitioned by the MOD during WW2 and I don't think they looked after it very well. When they handed it back it was deemed to be "unfit'.

What an incredible tunnel enhancing the gorgeous archways. It's a shame that the whole building doesn't still stand, because I imagine it was beautiful, if the ruins etc are anything to go by.

I wonder why the building was demolished. How nice that they left the colonnade. Good place for any visitor to shelter in the rain. It is a lovely piece of workmanship.

Your second PiP is absolutely beautiful, showing the workmanship of the time! So many buildings were lost in the 50's and 60's! Such a shame. Your first PiP shows the floor really well and the main shot is superb. I'll follow the link above now Keith.

Es muss sicher ein sehr schönes Herrenhaus gewesen sein, denn die Kollonade macht einiges her. Mir gefällt das Mauerwerk, das man in den beiden PiPs gut erkennt. Das zweite PiP gefällt mir besonders gut.
