Water

Water
This week in SSC: Water - (long exposure optional)

I was looking forward to getting some long exposure shots this week so I headed off to the Cushman Dam No. 2 along the Hood Canal here in Washington state. I was hoping to see lots of water but it is summer so the water was pretty low. I tried out my ND filter for the first time and had fun getting some motion blur on the water. I took my tripod but wound up bracing my camera on a ledge instead. Next time I will use my tripod for such long exposures. (More pics in PiPs.)

Hats off to you for using ND filters and long exposure! The second PiP is my absolute favourite, the water is just smooth enough without losing all the details.
I have some ND filters lying around but have never used them so far:-(

Danke sehr, Gudrun. I forgot I even had an ND filter and almost bought another one. :)) It works well and really makes a difference. I bet you'll love it once you try it. I want to do more now! :)

Aha! At last someone is brave enough to go down the slow shutter speed option. Well done, Karen. I love the second PiP.

Excellent series of photos, Karen. Looking forward to seeing more long exposure shots. Fascinating information too. I especially like the first PiP shot. For me this one creates a superb atmosphere. Love the way the light catches the moving water.

Hi Karen,

really nice view to set the context for the pip, which is a wonderful long exposure...

Now when we have in Europe this high temps (around 97°F!), such pictures are very refreshing! :-)
I see it's close to the east side of the Olympic N.P. I had been there in the early 2000's but rather at the west side, Quinault Lake and Rain Forest. I really like it and had a great time!

Oh, that's such a pretty area. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I love the rain forest and haven't been in a long time. What a great place to take some photos!
